I recall the Al Stewart gig on a Sunday evening in 1972 where the audience didn't take to kindly to his lacklustre performance.

He went through half a dozen songs and after not receiving much applause he purposely broken the strings on his guitar and stepped off the stage.

The audience didn't care much for his pomposity and student bedsit ditties being more into beer and rock!

I remember afterwards Al Stewart picked out the prettiest girl (a uni student) and sat chatting her up the rest of the evening.

The Sunday evening folk nights didn't last long. I think Claire Hammill was going to play there but cancelled at the last minute after having a bust up.

I saw Sutherland Brothers and Jonathan Kelly and a few others up there on those nights.

I recall a few other incidents at Clarence's like when Gong took over Paul Mountain's apartment. They took ages to perform all zonked out on hash.

Sometime in the early to mid 70s there was a black guy from the States who performed on his own in front of only about half a dozen of us. I can't remember his name or which group he was originally with but he was an amazing blues/soul artist.

Couldn't see his name on any of the artists lists.
